Officers of the Customs and Tax Service from the Lower Silesian Customs and Tax Office in Wrocław inspected a truck carrying waste on the A4 motorway near Jędrzychowice. The driver, travelling from Germany, attempted to transport 25 tons of shredded plastic waste to Poland.
The recipient did not have a permit to process waste and was unable to recover the plastic in compliance with the regulations.
Administrative fine of PLN 10,000 to PLN 1 million
WIOŚ deemed the shipment an illegal movement of waste. Officers secured the trailer and its cargo for the criminal proceedings. The recipient of the waste faces an administrative fine of between PLN 10,000 and PLN 1 million. In addition to financial penalties, the importer will have to pay for the disposal of the waste or transport it back to the sender under customs supervision.
In 2024, officers of the Customs and Tax Service from the Lower Silesian KAS prevented the illegal import of nearly 65 tons of waste.
