According to witnesses, the child was conscious and responsive, and the only complaint she reported was pain around her knee. The girl was taken to hospital for precautionary examinations.

– The driver of a Citroen failed to give way to a pedestrian (a 13-year-old from Bolesławiec) who was on a marked crossing. As a result, she hit the pedestrian and then collided with a Volkswagen travelling in the opposite direction. The drivers were sober. The teenager was taken to hospital, and her injuries resulted in a health impairment lasting fewer than seven days; therefore, the incident was classified as a collision – Bolesławiec police report.

Comments under a post on a social media platform indicate that the perpetrator was a young, sober Citroen driver who probably failed to exercise due care.

Among those commenting on the incident, calls for mutual caution predominate. Many comments draw attention to the poor lighting in this location, which makes it difficult for drivers to see pedestrians at the crossing. Participants in the discussion also express differing opinions about the duties of pedestrians and drivers.

Zbigniew, who was present at the scene, wrote: “In this case, the Citroen driver was clearly at fault; there was no sudden entry onto the road.” He also stressed: “She was conscious and responsive, and complained only of knee pain (...) it was fortunate in an unfortunate situation that the driver was travelling slowly.”

Some commenters, such as Remigiusz, point out the need for pedestrians to exercise particular caution: “You may have the right of way, but a driver may, for example, fail to notice a pedestrian in winter conditions. Young people need to be taught to look around and follow the principle of limited trust.”

On the other hand, others – including the aforementioned Zbigniew – indicate that this time the pedestrian behaved exemplary: “You are completely wrong. The girl behaved exemplary; unfortunately, the driver did not.”

There are also comments about poor lighting at pedestrian crossings and insufficient visibility after dark, as Marcin noted: “This crossing is a complete failure, with zero visibility at night.”

All these comments indicate that although regulations give pedestrians the right of way, it is crucial for all road users – drivers, pedestrians and local authorities responsible for infrastructure – to remember the principle of limited trust, ensure proper road conditions and exercise mutual caution.
