Yesterday, we reported on a teenager from Bolesławiec County who allegedly had contacts with the Islamic State. The boy was reportedly planning an attack on Polish and American soldiers stationed in Bolesławiec.

The teenager was detained and placed in an educational centre for 3 months.

– On 9 November, the Family and Juvenile Division of the District Court in Bolesławiec issued a decision on the temporary placement of the minor in a Regional Educational Centre for a period of 3 months. The case is being handled by the Family Court in Bolesławiec, and explanatory proceedings are under way – Judge Tomasz Skowron, press spokesperson for the Regional Court in Jelenia Góra, told the istotne.pl website.

The level of threat posed by the Islamic State (ISIS) in Poland was assessed as relatively low compared with some other European countries. Poland has not experienced any significant terrorist attacks linked to ISIS.

However, locations where American soldiers are stationed, such as Bolesławiec, may potentially be more exposed because of their symbolic significance to terrorist organizations opposed to the US military presence. The presence of American forces may attract the attention of extremists, although no specific threats or incidents in this regard have been reported so far. The Bolesławiec case may be the first such case in the country to have come to light.

Polish security services work closely with international partners, including the United States and NATO allies, to monitor and counter potential terrorist threats.
