On 25 November, officers from the Police Station in Kruszyn brought a 42-year-old Ukrainian citizen, detained in connection with the tragic incident on the A4 motorway, before the District Court in Bolesławiec.
The driver was charged with unintentionally causing a road accident by intentionally violating road safety rules and failing to adjust the vehicle’s speed to the prevailing road conditions.
As a result of the accident, a 38-year-old man from Bolesławiec died. At the moment of impact, he was outside his van, which he had stopped because the motorway was blocked by other trucks. Officers from the Bolesławiec Police headquarters and several other units from the Lower Silesian Voivodeship worked at the scene, which involved seven vehicles. ITD officers were also present.
The District Prosecutor in Bolesławiec requested an isolation measure, which the court granted by placing the 42-year-old in temporary detention for three months. The perpetrator faces a prison sentence of between 6 months and 8 years.
In view of changing weather conditions and increasingly frequent sub-zero temperatures, police officers are appealing to drivers to exercise particular caution and adjust their speed to the prevailing road conditions.
