On Monday (January 31), we reported on dead birds lying in a field between Bolesławiec and Dobra. We notified the District Veterinary Inspectorate in Bolesławiec about the matter. Later that same day, inspectors dealt with the case and found several dozen dead poultry birds in the field during an inspection. They identified both the owner of the field and the farm from which the dead birds had come.
The birds did not die from a disease
It turned out that the dead turkeys in the field came from a farm that raised them. As established by the PIW inspectors, the birds had not died from a disease but from what are known as “technological losses.” Turkeys are fattened so that they quickly reach a suitable weight and can be sold. It often happens that these birds’ weight gain comes at the expense of their internal organs. All the birds that ended up in the field near Dobra died of natural causes, such as stress and heart attacks. Poultry farms are under the constant supervision of the veterinary inspectorate and veterinarians. Therefore, there was no threat to people.
Regulations were violated
Farm owners are required to send dead birds for disposal. In the case of the turkeys from the field near Dobra, these regulations were violated. Instead of being sent for disposal, the dead turkeys were taken to the field along with manure. The PIW identified the farm from which the dead animals had come. It turned out that the farm owner had failed to ensure their disposal. The man will be fined. He must also thoroughly clean up the field and account for the matter with the District Veterinary Inspectorate.
