The firefighters from Tomaszów Bolesławiecki notified us about the matter: – The brother of Marlenka, a young volunteer firefighter from our MDP, needs support.
Wojtek’s parents:
Wojtek is 14 years old and a sensitive boy, although this is not apparent at first glance. He loves devoting himself to his greatest passions – cars and computers. He dreams of attending an automotive school and wants to become a bodywork mechanic. When we talk about the future, his eyes light up. He plans to attend vocational school, and now, in eighth grade, as his ideas have begun to take shape, he has gained new energy. Recently, he even opened up to his class and began forming closer relationships with his peers. It seemed that everything was moving in the right direction (…).
It all began quite ordinarily, one evening. Wojtek scratched his neck and then felt a large lump. He came to us worried, showing us where something was bothering him. He was swollen, so we immediately thought it might be mumps. However, wanting to dispel any doubts, we went to the hospital the very next day. The doctor quickly corrected our mistake – it was not mumps. We received a referral to the children’s ward for an ultrasound examination to check whether it might be enlarged lymph nodes. Unfortunately, with each successive examination, suspicions began to arise that it could be something much more serious. Eventually, we were transferred to Przylądek Nadziei, and Wojtek, despite his young age, calmly accepted everything happening around him.
And they add:
When we heard the diagnosis – Hodgkin lymphoma – our world was shaken. Wojtek had to face something no one would have expected. He had already been at Przylądek for three weeks when he learned that a long fight for his health awaited him. I could see that although he was trying to be brave, the news deeply affected him. His calm acceptance of the situation was both comforting and heartbreaking for me. I wish he could focus on his dreams and cars, but instead his everyday life has become filled with examinations and waiting for results.
And they add:
Wojtek has a brother who is two years older and a sister who is two years younger. Although, as is typical among siblings, they have better and worse days, they get along quite well. His older brother is holding up bravely, but his younger sister is taking it very hard. This is an enormous challenge for all of us, but we must be strong for Wojtek and for one another. Every bit of support from family and friends is extremely valuable to us now, because we know that the road ahead of us is long and difficult.
They also conclude:
Despite the difficult times, we look to the future with hope. Depending on the day, Wojtek feels better or worse, but we believe that his dreams are strong enough to help him get through the hardest moments. We believe he will be able to carry out his plans and fulfill his great dream of becoming a mechanic.
We are grateful for every bit of support on Wojtek’s journey back to health.
You can help!
