A summary of the year-long hairdressing course organized by the Powiatowy Urząd Pracy w Bolesławcu and the Cech Rzemiosł Różnych i Małej Przedsiębiorczości took place on Thursday, January 20, at the Galeria wedding and banquet center. On that day, the course participants took their journeyman examination. They all passed successfully.

“The examination consisted of two stages: a practical and a theoretical part. All the women were very well prepared,” says Dorota Kogut, chair of the examination committee. “The course participants can now open their own hair salons, and in three years they will be able to take master-level examinations.”

“Since childhood, I had dreamed of working in this profession, so as soon as the opportunity arose, I decided to take advantage of it,” says Karolina Rembecka. “What I like most about this profession is matching hairstyles to the shape of the face and the color of the eyes, and watching how changing a hairstyle can have a positive effect on someone’s appearance,” adds Justyna Szkutnik.

The training was intensive. “Courses of this type usually last three years; the one we took part in lasted a year. We knew that we had to stay motivated,” emphasizes Ms. Karolina. “It turned out that you can learn this profession in a year. You just have to want to,” Ms. Justyna says with a smile.

“Courses of this type are intended for people without vocational qualifications,” explains Ewa Hryciów, director of the Powiatowy Urząd Pracy w Bolesławcu. “The hairdressing course participants gained vocational qualifications in five salons. They also received theoretical training organized by the Cech Rzemiosł Różnych i Małej Przedsiębiorczości.

People taking part in PUP projects receive scholarships in addition to the opportunity to learn a profession. The office also reimburses their travel costs. Another training course began in January this year, this time at Gerresheimer. A course for bakers is scheduled to begin in March. “We encourage unemployed people to take part in our training courses,” says Ewa Hryciów. “We also invite you to visit the office—we have an exceptionally large number of job offers for this time of year.”
