As reported by the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate:
As a result of tests conducted by the State Sanitary Inspection, a higher-than-permissible level of ochratoxin A was found in batch 31492/24 of type 720 bread rye flour. Additional tests conducted by the producer on a sample from three different batches (31485/24, 31492/24 and 31495/24) produced from the same raw material confirmed the non-compliance.
Ochratoxin A is a toxin produced by fungi of the Aspergillus and Penicillium genera that has harmful effects on human health.
It adds:
At the request of the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate, a risk assessment was prepared by experts from the National Institute of Public Health PZH – National Research Institute. According to the assessment, consumption of the product bearing the stated batch numbers may pose a risk to consumers’ health.

What actions have been taken by the company and official control authorities?
The producer immediately took steps to withdraw from sale the batch in which the aforementioned exceedance was found and, as a precaution, decided to withdraw two additional batches that were produced at the same time: 31485/24 and 31495/24.
As soon as Lidl received information about the non-compliant test results, on 2 October 2024, it immediately withdrew products from the indicated batches from the market and informed customers in its stores and on its website that the product did not meet the requirements. It also advised customers to stop consuming products from the indicated batches. An item bearing the batch numbers listed above may be returned to any Lidl store without presenting a receipt.
The State Sanitary Inspection authorities are monitoring the process of withdrawing the questioned product batches.
