During the September session of the Bolesławiec County Council, Tomasz Matyjewicz, a councillor from PO, spoke. He said that it seemed to him that during the flood, the priority for the city services was the infrastructure of the Municipality of Bolesławiec, rather than the property of city residents. He also mentioned that the city was saved thanks to a spontaneous mass mobilisation. And he asked: – Where were the city services at that time?

Piotr Roman took the floor: – The city services do not wear armbands so that you could identify them.

He also emphasised the enormous amount of work carried out by city institutions, including MZGK (“Mr President Krzysztof Basiak did not sleep for two days”) and MZGM. He added that the wastewater treatment plant is also city property. – Was it not supposed to be saved? – he asked rhetorically.

He also noted that the City had prepared a system of maps that repeatedly helped in making decisions: – We knew where to place the sandbags. We knew which streets could be evacuated. He admitted that there had been mistakes, but the municipality is currently in a much better situation than others.

The mayor also addressed PO activists, accusing them of repeating fake news on social media claiming that the city services were only dealing with the swimming pool. – It is absolutely unfair. We tried to be everywhere – he stressed. He added that the City had received information that the contractor had secured the new swimming pools, but it turned out that this had not been done after all. He concluded that accusations of this kind were either political or resulted from ignorance.

The aforementioned councillor K. Basiak supported Piotr Roman:

It is difficult for me even to talk about it. Mr Matyjewicz is once again dividing our residents, who really worked hard in every place. I do not want such comments.
