On September 15 at around 10 p.m., they still believed they would win the battle. Residents were filling sandbags. Around midnight, the mayor of Wleń had to announce defeat.
– We lost the battle against the great flood – said Artur Zych. – The water overflowed the embankments behind the Elizabethan Sisters’ Centre. It will slowly flood the town. Unfortunately, we cannot stop it here. I would like to thank everyone who fought so bravely. There will still be water in the taps for around eight hours. Unfortunately, the generator at the water intake facility is flooded and will not power the pumps. Tomorrow we will try to provide food and water – the mayor added.
We will provide information about any relief collections in our pages.
