On 9–13 September 2024, the training facilities of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment in Bolesławiec hosted the 8th Military-Style Schools Sports and Defence Championships. The competition was held under the patronage of the Ministry of National Defence, while the task was carried out by the Association of Former Soldiers of the 62nd Special Company “Commando” and the 23rd Artillery Regiment.
A total of 33 teams from schools across Poland took part in the competition, which was held in three categories: boys’ teams, girls’ teams and mixed teams. Bolesławiec was represented by students of II LO im. Janusza Korczaka, which entered two teams: a boys’ team and a mixed team made up of students from CyberMil classes. For three days, the participants competed in eight events: a 3×50 m swimming relay; a 10 km cross-country march with tasks at checkpoints, assessed by instructors; accuracy shooting with an air rifle and air pistol; the Physical Fitness Course; grenade throwing for accuracy; grenade throwing for distance; and a 1,000 m team run in uniform.
The competition required the students to demonstrate great commitment and effort, strong physical fitness and tactical skills. In the final standings, the mixed-category team took first place: Oliwia Czuchraj, Ewelina Domachowska, Tomasz Jankowski, Wojciech Stefańczyk and Mateusz Mrozik – captain. The boys’ team finished in eighth place: Zachary Zaręba, Wojtek Zabagło, Bartosz Krosman, Mikołaj Kasiedczak and Jan Laskowski.
Maj. Jan Kędziora was responsible for preparing the students for the competition, while the second supervisor was Rev. Jacek Saładucha.
