We received reports from readers concerning swimming lessons for children:
Reader:
I am writing because the Orka swimming pool uses some strange practices. In previous years, MOSiR organized swimming lessons for children at a reasonable price. Now, when trying to enroll a child at the pool, they offer only lessons at private schools, where the tuition is several times higher. As the name itself indicates, the Municipal Sports and Recreation Centre should organize swimming instruction, rather than advertise private schools where swimming lessons cost almost PLN 400 per month.

Good morning. Could you mention the issue of swimming pools for children in the article? Swimming lessons have always been held at schools. Apparently, starting this year, the city has no funds. We, the parents, were not informed in advance at all that there would be no lessons.
We contacted the city hall with a question about this matter. Here is the response we received:
Agnieszka Gergont – spokesperson for the Bolesławiec City Hall:
This school year, MOSiR withdrew from running swimming schools. MOSiR’s previous offer was attracting increasingly less interest from customers, hence the decision to discontinue lessons run by MOSiR. The prices charged by the swimming schools are at a comparable level. They range from PLN 150 per month for lessons once a week to PLN 290 per month for lessons twice a week.
This year, PLN 427,000 was allocated in the Bolesławiec city budget for swimming instruction. Lessons began for 16 classes from Year 1 of public primary schools (six schools in total), including two classes participating in the “I Can Swim” program. Swimming lessons have been conducted in Bolesławiec for 10 years as part of the nationwide “I Can Swim” swimming program, funded partly by a grant from the Ministry of Tourism and Sport. In 2024, nearly PLN 35,000 was awarded for the program’s implementation, covering 10 groups. From September this year, two Year 1 groups can continue improving their swimming skills במסגרת the program. In 2025, the City Hall will apply for further funding for the “I Can Swim” program, which is addressed to primary school pupils in Years 1–3 throughout Poland.
