The event brought together local residents, local government authorities, veterans and young people, who collectively paid tribute to the heroes of those tragic days. The ceremonies provided an opportunity to reflect on the events of years ago and to remember the enormous price Poland paid for its freedom.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was a speech by the starosta of Bolesławiec County, Tomasz Gabrysiak. Addressing those gathered, the starosta referred to Poland’s turbulent history, recalling the suffering of millions of Poles during the war and the heroic struggle undertaken by our ancestors in defense of the country’s independence.

The starosta also drew attention to the international situation in September 1939, when France, formally Poland’s ally, hesitated over whether to provide us with military support. Gabrysiak recalled that the lack of a decisive reaction from France and other Western countries in the face of German aggression had tragic consequences not only for Poland, but also for them.

Tomasz Gabrysiak’s words prompted reflection on the fragility of peace and freedom, which cannot be taken for granted and require constant care.

The ceremonies concluded with the laying of flowers at the monument and a medley of patriotic songs performed by an orchestra.

The event was an important moment for the Bolesławiec community, reminding everyone of the need to preserve historical memory and pay tribute to those who fought for our freedom.
