It has long been known that the swans from the municipal pond in Bolesławiec like to go for walks around the city. The pair that lived there previously (before the current one) was capable of venturing considerable distances.

The swans used to be seen on Kościelna Street (by the market square), and even near Bonin Park (by I LO). Such trips were risky for the birds themselves, if only because of car traffic and the possibility of encountering a dog.

The current swans leave the railings around the municipal pond and go nibble on grass by the Independence Monument, or walk along the pavements by the pond. They are not aggressive and do not attack people. They do, however, attract the interest of passers-by, especially children.

We ask parents not to let their children approach the birds too closely. Although the Bolesławiec swans are tame, if they feel threatened, they may peck or strike with a wing, which, given the bird’s size and strength, can be very dangerous for a child.

Please do not feed the birds bread!

Taking this opportunity, once again we appeal, remind and ask you not to feed the birds bread. This food is unhealthy for them and can cause various digestive-system diseases, as well as so-called angel wing. In extreme cases, it can also cause a bird’s death. The same applies to feeding them cookies, crisps, chips and so on.

If, while in the area of the municipal pond in Bolesławiec, we want to give the birds something healthy to eat, it is best to use the duck food dispenser located by the pond. You can also purchase special, healthy food at pet shops.
