– Last Friday, the duty officer at the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica received a report about an intoxicated driver who had been apprehended by another road user – reports Commissioner Jagoda Ekiert, press officer of the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters. – Police officers were immediately dispatched to the 84th kilometre of the A4 motorway.
She adds:
At the scene, it was established that the driver of a Volvo truck with a trailer was having difficulty maintaining a straight course. He was changing lanes very abruptly from right to left, cutting off other drivers and forcing them to brake sharply.
There was heavy traffic on the motorway. One of the drivers decided to overtake the truck driver and, gradually reducing his speed, brought his own vehicle to a stop, which consequently also stopped the truck driven by the person responsible for the entire incident.
The police officer: – The man ran up to the Volvo driver and, suspecting that he might be intoxicated, removed the keys from the vehicle’s ignition and notified the police.
The intervening driver’s suspicions proved correct. The commissioner: – The 43-year-old resident of Wadowice County had 2.5‰ of alcohol in his breath.

Once again, the proper conduct of witnesses to the incident helped prevent a drunk driver from continuing to drive and perhaps avoid another tragedy caused by such a reckless driver.
The man was charged with creating an immediate danger of a disaster in land traffic. The prosecutor placed the 43-year-old under police supervision and required bail of PLN 5,000.
The extremely irresponsible driver now faces up to 8 years in prison.
