The reader’s message was brief and written in a sharp tone.
Cinema banned for people with disabilities? I would like to report a rather controversial matter involving the humiliation of people with disabilities. Why is the elevator at Kino Forum not working? It is not known since when or until when... Everyone remains silent, and people with disabilities cannot attend any premiere. Neither alone, nor with their families, nor with assistants. This means that such people have no opportunity for cultural development. Perhaps publicizing this matter will speed up the repair of the elevator now and in the future, so that it is not forgotten and people with disabilities are not disregarded by the cultural institution.
The director of the cultural center, which also manages the municipal cinema in Bolesławiec, is overwhelmed by the difficulties of obtaining a replacement part for the elevator. The elevator is 16 years old, and it is extremely difficult to obtain spare parts for it. Unfortunately, as Kornel Filipowicz explains, the control board that must be replaced is an integrated component, so it is not possible to replace a single element; the entire board must be purchased. Unfortunately, it can only be bought from the elevator manufacturer, which is located in Spain.
The director’s response concerning the elevator failure at Kino Forum
TECHLIFT hydraulic elevator, serial no. 01/08-600H installed on 8 May 2008, is regularly serviced by the manufacturer’s authorized service center in accordance with the applicable agreement and legal regulations.
During the latest inspection by the Technical Supervision Office, incorrect operation was found in one of the electronic boards, and for safety reasons the elevator was not approved for use. The electronic component was removed for repair. Since then, the service team has visited several times, testing whether the electronic fault had been repaired correctly and eliminating further defects. During the most recent visit, by eliminating errors in the control software, it was determined that the elevator control board needed to be replaced, which requires importing it from the elevator’s sole manufacturer in Spain. The elevator is already 16 years old, and it is extremely difficult to obtain spare parts for it. Unfortunately, the main board is an integrated, non-repairable component of the system.
We are very sorry for this situation, but we are unable to speed up the repair. We greatly value our cooperation with our viewers. We always treat contact with you as a priority, believing in the cinema’s cultural and therapeutic mission. We are doing everything possible to speed up the elevator repair. Until the main board is brought from Spain, we will make every effort to find an alternative solution to resolve the problem more quickly.
We have always fought for broad access to the cinema for everyone, especially people with disabilities.
Regardless of how the situation develops, we are looking for funding options to install a new elevator in our cinema.
Please allow me to remain in contact with you by email and to inform you personally about the hopefully successful progress of the elevator renovation.Kornel Filipowicz, director of BOK – MCC
