Poles had the opportunity to observe an unusual phenomenon in the night sky—the deorbiting of an Ariane 6 rocket. The launch of this two-stage launch vehicle, operated by Arianespace and manufactured by ArianeGroup on behalf of the European Space Agency, took place on July 9 from the European spaceport in French Guiana.
About two hours after launch, a strange glow was visible around the rocket over Poland, most likely resulting from a malfunction of the attitude-control engines. The phenomenon caused considerable excitement among observers who had the opportunity to watch the rocket fly across the starry sky.
Deorbiting is the process of reducing an object’s orbital velocity so that it enters Earth’s atmosphere at an appropriate angle, which in this case was described as a spectacular display in the sky.
