When we talk about sport, we often forget that not everyone has equal access to it. People with various disabilities often face difficulties using sports facilities and actively participating in sporting life. Fortunately, there is a place that has decided to change this: Dolnośląskie Centrum Sportu.

The entire building has been adapted with people with disabilities in mind. They can move around freely, use the infrastructure and spend their time actively. What is more, Dolnośląskie Centrum Sportu is also a place where training sessions are organised for Poland’s para-rowing team and the Polish national wheelchair basketball team. This shows that for this institution, inclusion and accessibility are not just slogans but a reality.

As part of the “Safe in the Mountains” project carried out by Karkonoski Sejmik Osób Niepełnosprawnych, on 19 July 2023 #NaPolanie opened a rental service for equipment and assistive devices for people with disabilities. It is an excellent initiative that enables people who may previously have had difficulty doing so to spend time actively and safely in the mountains.

These activities show that, slowly but steadily, the world of sport is becoming increasingly accessible and inclusive. This is a huge step in the right direction and should inspire others to follow the same path. Only then will sport truly be for everyone.
