Police officers from the station in Pieńsk obtained information through operational work about the location where fuel stolen from a tanker railcar, which had been parked at a nearby railway station, might be found.
The officers went to the location, where they detained three men who were transferring fuel in one of the abandoned buildings in the Węgliniec municipality. As there was a suspicion that the substance came from a theft, all of them were detained and taken to the police station. The officers secured more than 1,100 litres of petroleum-based substance, as well as a pump and a power generator. It turned out that the 24- and 27-year-olds were suspected of stealing the fuel, while the 41-year-old wanted to purchase the stolen substance from them.
As a result of further actions, the police detained another man who is also suspected of stealing fuel. All those detained have already been charged.
We remind you that both theft of someone else’s property and handling stolen goods are punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
