Our Readers asked us to publicize the matter. In an email to the editorial office, Reader wrote: “I can no longer stand looking at what is happening around here. Some time ago, a new rubbish bin was set on fire on Zygmunta Augusta Street. […] There is not a single streetlamp here; at night it is completely dark. It is a dream location for drunken vandals and graffiti artists. The residents of this very street have been fighting for several years to have streetlights installed. Unfortunately, this fight has produced no results; we are still standing still.”
According to our Reader: “It is dark and dangerous here. […] They damaged our neighbour’s car and steal car parts. Residents of Starzyńskiego Street who want to cross our courtyard walk with their mobile phones switched on because nothing can be seen. We have already written to MZGM; apparently they have a renovation planned, but when?”
As we have established, the residents of Zygmunta Augusta Street will once again have to be patient. Jarosław Karbowski, head of the Municipal Housing Management Office, explains that this investment was not included in the draft budget of the Municipality of Bolesławiec for next year. “The 2011 draft budget provides funds for the modernization of only one area behind buildings—that on Wojska Polskiego Avenue,” he says.
However, as the MZGM director emphasizes, there is a chance that the municipal authorities will allocate surplus budget funds for renovating the area behind Zygmunta Augusta Street. The decision, though, will be made by the City Council councillors.
