A press conference was held at Wrocław Główny station to mark the first connection to the Baltic coast this year operated by Koleje Dolnośląskie.
– The Koleje Dolnośląskie connection from Wrocław to Świnoujście is an excellent response to the need for better links between Poland’s most popular tourist destinations – said Paweł Gancarz, Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, at the press conference.
– The current efforts of Minister Dariusz Klimczak and Piotr Malepszak are aimed at making the rail market more open, which will increase the number of rail connections in the country. I am proud that Koleje Dolnośląskie, a company owned by the regional government, is developing at a pace that allows such goals to be achieved – Gancarz added.
Damian Stawikowski, president of Koleje Dolnośląskie, echoed him.
– A simple example: 13 pairs of direct connections run between Wrocław and Warsaw. In Germany, there are 25 pairs of connections per day between Berlin and Munich, the country’s third-largest city. We also want to carry passengers not only to Świnoujście but also to Warsaw, and we have the means to do so. Last year’s success of the KD Premium Nadmorski train confirmed our belief that regional railways can complement long-distance operators’ services and, as this example has shown, do so very effectively. The tremendous interest in today’s first train to the Baltic coast this summer has led us to launch a double set next week – said Damian Stawikowski, president of Koleje Dolnośląskie.
Lower Silesia to the Baltic, and Pomerania to Lower Silesia
KD Premium Nadmorski debuted during the 2023 summer holidays. More than 7,000 passengers used it at the time. Nearly 90 percent of the seats on the train were occupied. The train attracted interest not only on routes to and from Wrocław – half of the passengers used KD Premium Nadmorski while travelling to or from Legnica, Lubin or Głogów.
– Lower Silesian residents are happy to travel to the seaside with Koleje Dolnośląskie, but residents of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship also visit beautiful and mysterious Lower Silesia, and I warmly encourage everyone to do so – said Michał Rado, the deputy marshal responsible for railways in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. – Travellers themselves have recognized our voivodeship as offering the best regional connections in Poland. What is more, in recent years a quarter of a million Lower Silesian residents have regained access to rail after two decades – Rado added.
The local government officials stressed that Lower Silesia can be explored comfortably by train, including on Koleje Dolnośląskie services.
– By train, we can reach the most beautiful towns in Lower Silesia, including those located in the Sudetes – said Bartłomiej Kubicz, director of the Department of Economy and Promotion at the Marshal’s Office.
Wrocław–Świnoujście connection
KD Premium Nadmorski trains depart from Wrocław Główny every Saturday during the summer holidays at 6:44 a.m., and from Świnoujście every Sunday at 2:48 p.m. Additionally, on 15 August, Polish Armed Forces Day, KD trains will run in both directions. The final connection from Świnoujście to Wrocław will depart on 1 September.
Tickets can be purchased at Koleje Dolnośląskie ticket offices and in the Koleo app – for PLN 99 from Wrocław and PLN 89 from Legnica, Lubin, Głogów and Zielona Góra.
This will be the fastest connection from Lower Silesia to Świnoujście – the journey to the seaside will take 5 hours and 13 minutes, more than an hour faster than direct Intercity services; the return journey will take seven minutes longer. Besides Świnoujście, the train will stop at Szczecin Dąbie and Międzyzdroje stations in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.
Five-car Impuls trains will run between Lower Silesia and West Pomerania, in single or double sets depending on the number of tickets sold.
