During Wednesday’s meeting of the Bolesławiec City Council, deputy Piotr Roman Robert Rzepnicki presented councillors with information on the progress of road investments in the city.

During the presentation, the deputy head of the Bolesławiec municipal office mentioned the second stage of the Bolesławiec bypass, which is expected to cost PLN 65 million. – Design work is still underway, he stressed. Unfortunately, the investment has been delayed for several reasons.

Two roundabouts

Piotr Roman spoke: – Ultimately, after many, many discussions, the optimal solution seems to be the construction of a second roundabout. (As shown on the map below).

The mayor added that there is also a financial problem, as the investment in question will cost more than originally assumed. He stressed that he had contacted Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on the matter. He suggested to the head of the Ministry of National Defence that this road be classified as a defence-related road. – We believe this is the main argument for finding the missing funds, said the head of the Bolesławiec urban municipality.

He explained: – Why is this a defence-related road? Because we have both a military unit, the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment, and American troops here. In the event of large-scale exercises conducted on NATO’s eastern border, these large transports very often stop in Bolesławiec.

He also mentioned one of the reasons for the investment’s delay:

We also have surprises. One such surprise is a protest by a Bolesławiec resident, who wrote to the Lower Silesian voivode, the DSDiK management, and Poland’s chief rabbi. He suggests that the bypass runs through the site of a former concentration or prisoner-of-war camp. We know that there was no camp there, but this sets the entire procedure in motion. Such a protest can be effective, although in this case—in my opinion—it will not be effective.
