As she wrote on pomagam.pl Ms Dorota, a resident of Świętoszów:
I remember the time before my illness as very happy and, above all, active. Back then, my children had a crazy mum—smiling, full of ideas, strength and energy for playing, and ready to support them whenever they needed it. I worked full-time and felt as though I was in my element in this world.
In an instant, the illness took away my entire life as I had known it… At first, I was diagnosed with an attack of tetany—my face and hands were twisted, and I was drowning in terror. I developed severe venous thrombosis… Further tests revealed mitral valve prolapse, problems with mobility and Lyme disease. I could feel my strength fading… And then came the diagnosis: Bechterew’s disease (ankylosing spondylitis)—a chronic and progressive inflammatory process that can lead to severe disability. According to scientific research, the average age of untreated patients with ankylosing spondylitis was 46!
Ankylosing spondylitis is accompanied by osteoporosis. I also struggle with anxiety neurosis and depression, anemia and arrhythmia. I have aneurysms in my brain, which are probably the cause of terrible headaches…
And she adds:
All of this turns my life into a battlefield—HOW LONG WILL MY STRENGTH LAST?
And she emphasizes:
I am so afraid for my children’s future—for how much longer I will be able to do things for them and how long I will be able to be there for them. I know that without intensive rehabilitation, I have no chance of regaining my mobility. At the same time, without biological treatment, my condition will deteriorate rapidly. This treatment is reimbursed, but only for people whose disease is already at a more advanced stage. But I cannot wait until I am completely bedridden—I want to fight while I still can! That is why we are begging you for support. Thank you so much for every bit of help!
