On May 23, 2024, Mr. Wojciech came with his mother to the Municipal Cemetery in Bolesławiec to visit his father’s grave. There, he found a broken cross, while the grave was covered with soil and plastic flooring. Preparations for another person’s funeral were underway.
Mr. Wojciech intervened at the cemetery management office and called the police, but received no help. The Fenix funeral company, responsible for the burial, claimed, according to Mr. Wojciech, that it was a construction site.
During the funeral, the priest, as the man had anticipated, stood on his father’s grave.
The incident shocked and outraged Mr. Wojciech’s family. The cemetery manager promised that the matter would be clarified. Kazimierz Łomotowski, director of the Municipal Housing Management Department, apologized for the incident and assured them that such incidents would not happen again.
This sad event highlights the need for greater sensitivity and respect for the resting places of the deceased, as well as better communication among cemetery management, funeral companies and the families of the deceased. Sensitivity to such matters is crucial to prevent similar situations in the future.
