The theatre in Legnica is an Artistic Institution of the Self-Government of Lower Silesia. The Lower Silesian Voivodeship and the city of Legnica jointly make decisions concerning it.
The current director, Jacek Głomb, has begun lobbying for Błażej Biegasiewicz, who comes from Bolesławiec (and is privately the son of one of the employees of Bolesławiec County).
Jacek Głomb announced that he would leave the theatre in Legnica on 31 August 2025, stressing that he wanted to do so on his own terms, while the theatre was in excellent artistic condition. Głomb had already spoken with the ministry about jointly running the theatre from January 2025 and expressed hope for better relations with Legnica’s new mayor and the voivodeship board. He proposed the young director Błażej Biegasiewicz as his successor, whom he intends to prepare to take up the position of director throughout the coming season.
Here is the statement Jacek Głomb published on the Teatr Modrzejewskiej website:
“I am a sports car, perhaps not the best one, but still a decent one. I can still drive fast, but I am the only one who can see that I am running out of fuel,” said Jurgen Klopp, the coach of the famous Liverpool, announcing his departure at the end of the season.
I feel the same way. On 31 August 2025, I am leaving the theatre in Legnica. I know that for some of you this may be a shock or a surprise, but I believe this is the last moment to make this decision so that it remains mine, so that I leave on my own terms.
First: the theatre is in excellent artistic condition; we have one of the best acting ensembles in Poland, it wins awards, attends festivals and plays to full houses. Second: I spoke with Minister Sienkiewicz and hope to continue these discussions with Minister Wróblewska about the ministry jointly running our theatre from 1 January 2025. Third: we defeated Tadeusz Krzakowski, and I hope to establish better relations with Legnica’s new mayor and the new voivodeship board. Teatr Modrzejewskiej needs wise continuation and evolution, not revolution.
And I have an idea for that, which I presented to the acting ensemble on Thursday, because I would like my successor to be a candidate supported by both me and the actors, not just me.
This idea is called Błażej Biegasiewicz, born in 1994 (so he was born in the year in which I took over the theatre in Legnica), a young director who graduated from a Kraków school and won the Young Directors’ Forum in Kraków in 2021. Błażej is from Bolesławiec, so he grew up with the theatre in Legnica. Since 1 May 2024, he has been our programme consultant. I will continue speaking with the actors and persuading them to support Błażej. I will speak with the authorities about Błażej and urge them to support him.
Throughout the coming season, I will prepare Błażej Biegasiewicz to take up the position of director of Teatr Modrzejewskiej in Legnica. Błażej will also direct a performance at our theatre in the upcoming season.
