The incident occurred on 19 May Firefighters from Nowogrodziec:
11:40 (…) an incident involving a snake in a boiler room in the village of Milików. The snake was captured using animal-handling tongs, transported and released away from buildings near the forest.
The reptile turned out to be… a grass snake, also known as Natrix natrix, the most commonly encountered snake in Poland, which poses no threat to humans.
These cold-blooded animals prefer damp forests, meadows and areas around bodies of water, where they can bask in the sun. Grass snakes are not venomous and rarely bite; if they do, their bites are usually harmless and may cause only minor skin irritation. It is worth remembering, however, not to try to catch or touch them, in order to avoid unnecessary stress for the animal and the possibility of being bitten.
