Few people know that the Moon, Earth's only natural satellite, is visible in the night sky for only a few hours (except around the time of the full moon). During the first quarter, it is visible in the evening and sets around midnight, while during the last quarter it does not rise until around midnight. It is best to observe the Moon not during the full moon, but along the terminator (the line of sunrise or sunset on the Moon); this is when the Moon's terrain can be seen more clearly, thanks to the shadows cast by objects on its surface.
