The world of ceramics and the history of Bolesławiec are fascinating, as visitors can discover by visiting the historic 19th-century Pückler mansion in Bolesławiec. A visit to the new Ceramics Museum is an emotional journey through the centuries. The newly prepared permanent exhibitions, arranged in an elegant and aesthetically pleasing manner, present the history of Bolesławiec ceramics in connection with the history and cultural heritage of the city and region, covering topics from the Bronze Age to the present day. Multimedia devices play an important role in this story. Animated historical images and sounds from the past are present in every room, supplementing the information displayed directly beside the exhibits in an engaging and accessible way. There are also attractions for the youngest visitors, including games, quizzes and interactive stations. All this means that museum guests, regardless of age, can discover the past in an exceptionally interesting way, often losing track of time in the process.

Separate exhibitions complementing the main historical display include presentations of works by the contemporary local artistic community and an exhibition of contemporary Bolesławiec ceramics. The first introduces the work of Bolesławiec artists, including painters, sculptors and photographers. The second presents the latest designs from 37 Bolesławiec ceramic manufacturers currently operating in the region. The new Ceramics Museum also currently features two temporary exhibitions showcasing Italian faience from Deruta and Faenza, as well as porcelain from Porsgrunn, Norway. These exhibitions are one expression of Bolesławiec’s active participation in the European Route of Ceramics. As part of cooperation with other ceramic centres in Europe, Bolesławiec ceramics were presented last year in Vienna and Porsgrunn, Norway.

The renovation of the historic neo-Gothic Pückler Palace at 28/29 Zgorzelecka Street and its adaptation as the new home of the Ceramics Museum were the main tasks of the project “Poland and Norway on the European Route of Ceramics: incorporating Bolesławiec and Porsgrunn into an international network of cities with ceramic traditions.” The undertaking lasted more than three years and was linked to the accession of two renowned ceramic centres—Bolesławiec in Poland and Porsgrunn in Norway—to the European Route of Ceramics, one of the certified European Cultural Routes. Joining the route opens up new opportunities for promoting ceramics in Europe and exchanging cultural offerings. The implementation of such a large undertaking was made possible by funding from the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism under the “Culture” Programme.

The new Museum building has become a place of extraordinary solutions leading into the world of history and ceramics presented in an innovative form. The exhibitions are open from Tuesday to Sunday during the following hours:
Tuesday, Thursday: 11:00–19:00,
Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday: 09:00–17:00.
