– Last Sunday (April 14), before 4:00 p.m., a fatal road accident occurred on a section of provincial road No. 350 in Zgorzelec County. Police officers and a road accident reconstruction expert worked at the scene under the supervision of a prosecutor – reports Senior Constable Łukasz Porębski from the Press Section of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – The findings established that the rider of a Kawasaki motorcycle failed to adjust his speed, left the road and hit a tree. Unfortunately, the 22-year-old resident of Lubusz Voivodeship died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The previous day, April 13, another fatal accident involving a motorcyclist occurred in our region. The incident took place in Polkowice County. The spokesperson said:

The findings made at the scene showed that the 46-year-old motorcyclist from Gaworzyce Municipality entered a railway crossing and collided with a freight train. Despite the rescue efforts undertaken, the motorcyclist died at the scene. Police officers, under the supervision of a prosecutor, are establishing the exact circumstances of this tragic accident.

Police appeal:

The growing number of motorcycle enthusiasts affects this group’s share in road-incident statistics. Road accidents involving motorcyclists often have serious consequences. Therefore, for many years, various measures have been undertaken to reduce the number of road incidents involving them and, consequently, the number of people killed and injured.

The spokesperson adds:

The consequences of an accident involving a motorcyclist are more serious than those of a car accident. A motorcyclist is not protected by the vehicle’s bodywork, seat belts or airbags. In addition to a properly functioning vehicle, appropriate riding technique and suitable protective clothing, visibility on the road also has a significant impact on motorcyclists’ safety. It is important to remember that “seeing” and “being visible” are two different matters—the later a car driver notices a motorcyclist, the less likely there may be sufficient time to react appropriately.
