Equipment purchased with funds from the summer collection of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity under the slogan “Stop Floods” was originally intended only for the Volunteer Fire Service in Nowogrodziec in Bolesławiec County. However, thanks to the intervention of Bogusław Nowak, head of the WOŚP committees in January and June this year, and Mariusz Lickiewicz, a firefighter with the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec, firefighters from Parowa and Wierzbowa will also benefit from the campaign.

WOŚP distributes equipment after considering requests submitted by individual committees. The Bolesławiec committee, working with firefighters, prepared such a list, and as a result the Nowogrodziec Volunteer Fire Service will receive a power generator. This equipment is essential, as the unit has only one device of this type left. “We had two, but one was irreparably destroyed during the recent fire at the candle factory in Szczytnica,” says Ryszard Kalus, head of the Nowogrodziec Volunteer Fire Service. “The equipment from WOŚP will be very useful to us.”

After the purchased power generators and motor pumps had been allocated, it turned out that an additional list of Volunteer Fire Service units in need would be created. Thanks to the swift intervention of Mariusz Lickiewicz and Bogusław Nowak, two more units from Bolesławiec County were added to this list: the Parowa Volunteer Fire Service and the Wierzbowa Volunteer Fire Service. Both will receive sludge pumps.

“The residents of our county showed during WOŚP’s summer campaign that they care about this cause and want to help eliminate the effects of the flood,” says Nowak. “We raised over PLN 21,700, while Wrocław raised PLN 25,000 and Jelenia Góra PLN 11,000. We will benefit from this because our wonderful firefighters will be better equipped.”

The equipment is scheduled to be handed over in December this year.
