Zgorzelec Customs and Tax Service officers stopped a transport carrying illegal waste on the A4 motorway in Jędrzychowice. The driver was carrying waste from Germany.
– According to the accompanying documents, the shipment was supposed to consist of waste electrical and electronic equipment – explains Sebastian Polański from the Lower Silesian KAS. – During the inspection, 22 tonnes of various mixtures of substances and objects resulting from mechanical processing were found (plastics, metal and rubber components, as well as pieces of textiles, cardboard, electronic circuit boards, pipes and cables).
The spokesperson clarifies: – The recipient did not have a permit to process the waste and was unable to recover the plastics in accordance with the regulations. The vehicle did not transmit geolocation data, and the trailer carrying the rubbish did not have valid technical inspections.
KAS:
The transport of sensitive goods – such as fuel, alcohol, tobacco or waste – must be reported in the Electronic Transport Supervision System (SENT), and the transport itself is monitored through a geolocation system installed in the vehicle.
The outcome? The Regional Environmental Protection Inspector deemed the shipment an illegal movement of waste, and officers from the Lower Silesian KAS secured the trailer and its cargo for the criminal proceedings. The recipient of the waste faces a fine of up to PLN 500,000.
