The fact that the Animal Aid Association wanted the municipal authorities to implement an animal homelessness prevention program, under which sterilization and neutering procedures would be performed, among other measures, has been reported by us repeatedly. The City Council adopted a resolution on the matter only in October this year. The vote was not without controversy, either. Ten councillors voted in favor, seven against, and three abstained.

“I am pleased that this resolution was adopted. It is just a shame that it took so long,” says Anna Ryżewska, head of SPZ. “We held the first discussions about introducing this program as early as February 2009.”

In the president’s view, the animal homelessness prevention program adopted by the councillors is not perfect, but it is a step in the right direction. “It is a shame that the resolution mentions only mandatory vaccinations. Animals should be provided with comprehensive vaccinations. The association also wanted temporary homes for animals to be established in Bolesławiec. This point was not included in the program at all,” says Anna Ryżewska. “On the other hand, we are pleased that the resolution passed, even in this form. Now we will monitor how the program is implemented,” she announces.

We will return to this matter.
