For this reason, more and more business owners realize that these reviews are a key aspect shaping a company’s image online and can have both a positive and a negative impact on the operation of the entire business. For this reason, some business owners wonder whether reviews posted on Google Maps can be removed. We answer this question.

How can a user remove their Google Maps review?

After using a company’s services, a customer can share their opinion about it online using the options provided by a Google Business Profile. These reviews are a fairly objective indicator of satisfaction and are a key element considered by customers of companies operating in various industries. Every user can write a review, give a company between one and five stars indicating their level of satisfaction, and even add photos.

It is worth being aware that such reviews affect a company’s image. Therefore, both positive and negative comments should be posted thoughtfully. But can Google reviews be removed? A user who has changed their mind about a business and wants to remove their Google Maps review can do so very easily. They simply need to log in to their Google account and then, in the reviews tab, select the review they want to edit or remove. After clicking the three dots in the upper-right corner of the review, they just need to select “delete review” from the drop-down menu.

Can a company remove a review about itself on Google Maps?

Companies cannot remove reviews about themselves posted by other users so easily. Many business owners ask whether Google Maps reviews can be removed independently through Google Business Profile. Unfortunately, we cannot take such action, because a review can only be removed by the user who posted it or by Google. Therefore, we can contact the customer and ask them to remove the negative review.

If, however, an unfavorable review results from dishonest actions by a competitor, we can report a violation of the rules to Google. In such a situation, the platform’s support team will remove negative reviews posted by alleged customers from our company profile if it determines that there are sufficient grounds to do so. These include impersonating other people, signs of dishonest actions by competitors, or conflicts of interest. If Google determines that the review does not violate its terms, however, it will not verify whether it is truthful or settle disputes in this regard. Therefore, in some situations, it is difficult to remove a review from a company profile. If we nevertheless want to remove a review, we should submit a report to Google support as a terms violation.

How should you respond to Google Maps reviews?

Google search algorithms can now recognize spam in the form of fake reviews and remove it from the web. Companies can also report comments created in violation of Google’s rules by clicking the “report a problem” button and submitting the matter to Google support. However, if the review was not written by a dishonest competitor but by a genuinely dissatisfied customer, Google will not remove it. In that case, it is a good idea to respond to the comment.

If we know that a negative review is justified, we should apologize for what happened and offer some form of compensation. The reviewer may change it. It is worth asking the customer to get in touch so that the matter can be explained. We should use a factual, professional, and polite tone. It is also worth responding to positive comments, thanking customers for their purchase and inviting them to get in touch again, because interactions with people who post reviews are important from the company’s marketing and image perspective.
