The Koleje Dolnośląskie express service will be attractive in terms of travel time, thanks to a shorter journey resulting from the limited number of stops. The trains will stop only in four towns between Wrocław and Warsaw. Importantly, the company does not want to compete with PKP Intercity on this route, but to complement the transport offer between the capital of Lower Silesia and Warsaw.
– We have taken the first step toward enabling Koleje Dolnośląskie trains to run regularly between Wrocław and Warsaw. We have submitted an application to the Office of Rail Transport for permission to launch this express connection. We plan to depart from Wrocław in the morning, while the return from Warsaw is to take place after 4:00 p.m. Five-car Elf 2 48WEc or Impuls 45WE trains are to operate on this route – says Damian Stawikowski, president of Koleje Dolnośląskie.
The application for services from Wrocław to Warsaw covers the entire week: from Monday to Sunday. On all days, the trains would run at the same time.
– At the same time, we want the express train to Warsaw to be coordinated with other connections, so that residents of Lower Silesia can comfortably change trains in Wrocław when traveling toward cities such as Legnica or Lubin – adds Damian Stawikowski.
The planned departure times from the stations listed in the application submitted to the UTK are: 9:40 Wrocław Główny – 9:46 Wrocław Mikołajów – 10:31 Leszno – 11:08 Poznań Główny – 11:53 Konin – 12:29 Kutno – 13:30 Warszawa Zachodnia – arriving at Warszawa Centralna at 13:35.
The return from Warszawa Centralna will be possible at 17:15, with stops at Warszawa Zachodnia at 17:22, Kutno at 18:21, Konin at 18:57, Poznań Główny at 19:45, Leszno at 20:21 and Wrocław Mikołajów at 21:05, arriving at Wrocław Główny at 9:10 p.m.
Koleje Dolnośląskie has experience operating long-distance routes. In 2023, the company launched a summer train from Wrocław to Świnoujście. Trains departing from the capital of Lower Silesia stopped only in Legnica, Lubin, Głogów and Zielona Góra, then continued to Szczecin, and from there to Międzyzdroje and Świnoujście.
