Police officers from the Economic Crime Division of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica received information that a woman had used an altered medical certificate at one of the Psychological and Pedagogical Counselling Centres operating in Legnica County. During their investigation, officers established that the resident of Legnica had entered the disease code of her minor child and information about his health on the issued certificate. The documents submitted by the woman were intended to obtain a decision confirming the need for special education for her minor son.

During the proceedings, police officers secured the document, interviewed witnesses and, after carrying out the necessary activities, charged the woman with altering and using an altered document. The resident of Legnica admitted to the acts of which she was accused.

Police remind the public that, pursuant to §1 of Article 270 of the Act of 6 June 1997, the Criminal Code, such conduct constitutes an offence: “Anyone who, with the intention of using it as genuine, forges or alters a document, or uses such a document as genuine, is liable to a fine, restriction of liberty or imprisonment for between three months and five years.”
