A store selling pottery made by eighteen workshops belonging to the Ceramic Brotherhood has opened at the International Ceramics Centre. The store is intended to promote products made by Bolesławiec entrepreneurs. – The manufacturers set the prices themselves and effectively place their products on consignment – explains Ewa Lijewska-Małachowska, director of BOK-MCC. – We charge a 20 percent margin, which keeps the store profitable while allowing prices to remain the same as those in company stores.

The director also emphasised the importance of cooperation within the ceramics community. Ewa Lijewska-Małachowska was the first person to recognise that the city of ceramics did not sufficiently highlight the role of ceramic artists and potters. – I undertook the task of consolidating the ceramic artists. The Ceramic Brotherhood was established in August 2009. It is a great joy for me that we can now offer our local entrepreneurs an attractive place where they can sell their products.

Karol Stasik, president of ZC “Bolesławiec” and a member of the brotherhood, praises the idea and the creation of the International Ceramics Centre. – In 2003, the Bolesławiec Business Association, together with the city authorities, organised a conference at which the idea of creating a ceramics centre in the city was proposed – says Stasik. – Its formula was defined then. It was to be a place serving ceramics, promoting it in a broad sense, and selling products made by local manufacturers. I am therefore delighted that this idea and dream of mine is now being implemented so successfully.

The store’s main advantage is its wide range of products. Visitors can see products from more than a dozen workshops, each with its own unique and original designs. The store is a mini-gallery of applied art. It is captivating in its multitude of original forms, patterns, colours and ideas for using Bolesławiec pottery in the household. Until now, apart from the Ceramics Festival, it had not been possible to see in one place these small works of applied art created by local workshops.

The olive tree decorating the store’s interior is a good symbol and a positive omen for the future. It was Ewa Lijewska-Małachowska’s idea; she decorated the store in the city of ceramics with a beautiful, long-lived and robust plant that has provided people with food and wealth for centuries.

The IstotneInformacje.pl portal and newspaper wish the Ceramic Brotherhood longevity and good sales.

The pottery store is located in BOK-MCC, at Piłsudski Square. Open Monday to Saturday, 10:00–20:00.
