The definition explaining what a loan is can be found in banking law. It states that a loan is an obligation that the bank agrees to provide to the borrower for a specified period, in a specified amount and under the terms set out in the loan agreement.
The person taking out the loan, namely the borrower, undertakes to repay the obligation regularly, comply with the terms of the loan agreement and spend the money in accordance with the purpose specified in the loan agreement.
What should a loan agreement contain?
As a rule, a loan agreement should be made in writing. The loan agreement should specify in detail such aspects as:
- the parties to the loan,
- the loan amount,
- the loan currency,
- the loan repayment deadline,
- the loan repayment schedule,
- the loan interest rate,
- the loan margin,
- the loan commission,
- loan repayment rules,
- early loan repayment rules,
- and more.
Why do people take out loans?
People all over the world take out loans for various reasons. It is important to remember that only a small part of society can afford to buy a house, apartment or car using current funds. A loan is most often taken out when an individual is unable to pay for a given item with the money they have.
Depending on the type of loan, the borrowed money can be used for various purposes. A loan can be used, among other things, to purchase an apartment, renovate an apartment, build a house, buy a car, purchase furniture or household and electronic equipment, or fulfill dreams. However, before making the final decision, you should carefully analyze your financial situation and the purpose for which you want to take out the loan.
What types of loans are available?
In response to customers’ diverse needs, banks have prepared various banking products. We can begin classifying loans by distinguishing between loans in Polish złoty and foreign-currency loans. Foreign-currency loans are granted in a currency other than the one in force in a given country.
Loans for individual customers and loans for businesses can also be distinguished. Business loans include, among others, working-capital loans and investment loans. The classification of loans for individual customers includes, among others, consumer loans and housing loans. Consumer loans include, among others, cash loans, student loans, car loans and credit cards. The best-known housing loan is a mortgage loan; however, it should be remembered that loans secured by something other than a mortgage also exist.
Does the WIBOR rate affect the amount of the loan installment?
It should be noted that this rate affects the amount of the loan installment only in the case of mortgage loans with a variable interest rate. A fixed-rate mortgage installment does not depend on fluctuations in the WIBOR rate.
