The statement from the Bieg Piastów organizers dated 19 February 2024 reads:
We regret to inform you that, due to unfavorable weather conditions—specifically, a lack of snow, high temperatures and rain, as well as unfavorable weather forecasts—we are forced to cancel the 48th KGHM Bieg Piastów Cross-Country Skiing Festival, which was scheduled to take place from 24 February to 3 March 2024. Unfortunately, weather conditions are beyond our control. The safety of participants and the quality of the event itself are our priorities, which is why we have made the difficult decision to cancel the competition. (...) We will offer athletes who come to Jakuszyce during the period of the cancelled main events other ways to spend their time. We are planning cross-country skiing and hiking trips of various lengths with a bonfire, as well as the premiere of a film about Julian Gozdowski. We will provide details soon (...) We apologize for all the problems resulting from the cancellation of the competition. This is a very difficult and painful decision for us. We ask for your understanding.
The organizers will probably postpone the Bieg Piastów in 2025. However, it is not known how much longer we will be able to enjoy snow at Polana Jakuszycka if all of Europe does not make a joint effort to halt global warming.
