Marcin Zabawa: The spring round of the competition begins at the start of March. Right at the beginning, you face an away match against Słowianin Wolibórz, the IV-league leaders. Are you ready for the upcoming season? Please say a few words about your preparations and the friendly matches you have played. What did it look like?
Coach Mateusz Mucha: I will start with one of the most important issues: all the players who played in the previous round are staying with our team. This is very valuable news for us. We worked hard during the preparation period. We began intensive training at the end of December and continued after the New Year, so we are well prepared for the return round. We played very good friendly matches, so we are optimistic about what will happen in the upcoming round. Of course, we want to remain in the IV league; that is our main goal, but our priority remains our youth players. We want to compete with them for first place in the Pro Junior System.
Who will you play in the final friendly match?
Mateusz Mucha: We are playing our final test before the return round this Saturday, February 24, against Piast Iłowa in Szprotawa.
So the spring squad remains the same?
President Przemysław Szajwaj: We are still considering two players as reinforcements. However, we will not reveal any more information on the subject for now—such matters prefer silence, especially at the very end of the transfer window. The team’s squad will not become smaller; we are only considering adding two more players. This is caused solely by our desire to remain in the fourth league, so we are throwing all our strength into the battle.
And what about the second team? There are rumors, of course unconfirmed, that it may be withdrawn?
Przemysław Szajwaj: The second team is staying. We have no plans that would possibly prevent the players from taking part in the return round. Of course, the final decision will be dictated by squad requirements. If the coach—and everything indicates that he will—has a team to play, it will participate in the return round.
I will ask a question that has worried the fans. At the beginning of February, information appeared about the distribution of funds for senior sports in Bolesławiec. BKS was not among the clubs that received money from the city... What happened?
Przemysław Szajwaj: Indeed, in the first call for applications, money was not allocated to the BKS team because of formal errors we made in the applications.
So the money has not been lost?
Przemysław Szajwaj: It has not been lost. There is still a chance to obtain the funds. A second call for applications has been announced, and we are taking part in it. We are waiting for the results. We understand the fans’ concern and anxiety. However, we are calm because we know what financial prospects lie ahead of us.
Will the matches in the spring round still be played at Rajska?
Mateusz Mucha: We are trying to make that happen. It is important for us to have the pitch brought into a condition that allows the matches to take place in good conditions. At present, the pitch is not adequately prepared, but this is primarily due to the weather conditions, and therefore to things beyond our control. We have an alternative—we can play in Świętoszów, and we are currently considering that solution.
Przemysław Szajwaj: Yes, the weather has a decisive influence on the search for alternative solutions. These are technical matters that we are aware of. The situation in Bolesławiec is additionally complicated by the fact that most of the pitches are being renovated, which we are very happy about; however, we realize that we simply have to get through this more difficult period during the next round.
The city stadium is scheduled to reopen after modernization in September, and the following year there will be two pitches at OWS, including one covered... You must be looking forward to that. Coach, how did you manage during the preparation period? Training must have been difficult without an artificial pitch.
Mateusz Mucha: Our boys trained four times a week. At the beginning of January, we were able to use the OWS pitches. We trained regularly at the athletics field on Komuny Paryskiej Street and made use of the opportunity to run outdoors. We also had access to Orlik pitches and the TKKF “Bolesławianka” gym. Every week we played practice matches. In our view, the boys are excellently prepared for this round, so we are eagerly awaiting the next stage of the season.
Any surprises? Anything new at the club? Can you gentlemen reveal anything?
Mateusz Mucha: Anyone interested and hungry for all the news is invited to the general meeting, where we will surely reveal some interesting information.
Przemysław Szajwaj: We are gradually beginning to reveal the details concerning the past three months, about which we previously asked for time. I am referring to the general meeting held on November 30. Immediately after the election, we appealed for the proverbial 100 days of peace, which we needed to put various organizational matters in order, including matters concerning the statutes. We admit that in some areas the statutes hinder our development. We aim to move the club in the future to a place where it can also earn money for itself. At the moment, however, BKS does not fully have such opportunities. It has to rely on patrons and sponsors, which does not always work out. Nevertheless, this development issue is very important to us. We hope that during the aforementioned general meeting we will be able to present specific details. We have a certain vision of how the BKS Bolesławiec Academy should operate, what BKS Bolesławiec should represent on the city’s map, what tasks it should fulfill, and what direction it should take from the new season.
Mateusz Mucha: We already invite the youngest children to join our sports family. Information about the recruitment, which began recently, can currently be found on our social media pages. We are very eager to create a recruitment group for five- and six-year-olds (those born in 2018–2019), which will train not only football but also other sports, including volleyball, handball and basketball. We also plan to offer individual sports—tennis and martial arts—as well as the opportunity to participate in activities improving concentration and reaction time using modern technologies. These are very ambitious plans, but we have passion and interesting solutions, as well as hope that our proposals will find fertile ground.
Thank you for the interview.
Thank you.
