Jakub is 6 years old. At 14 months of age, he was diagnosed with childhood autism with pervasive disorders of speech and psychomotor development, as well as sensory integration difficulties.

He has been undergoing continuous rehabilitation since his diagnosis. The therapy improves his speech and independence and helps him socialize.

Unfortunately, preliminary examinations indicate that Kuba is also dealing with intellectual disability, which severely limits his cognitive development. Severe food and airborne allergies require a restrictive diet. Jakub also struggles with childhood asthma and immune system disorders.

All this means that, although at first glance this little boy does not differ from his peers, every day I have to fight for his health and development.

When Kuba’s speech developed, I hoped that we were on the right track. Unfortunately, Kuba is a perfect example of a child who shows that speech is not the same as conversation. The lack of proper communication greatly limits my son, especially at school.

Jakub requires constant care from another person and multidisciplinary therapy: speech-language therapy, sensory integration classes, physiotherapy, psychological support and Social Skills Training. In addition, he remains under the regular care of a neurologist, psychiatrist and allergist. The vast majority of these are private appointments.

Depending on the specialist, therapy costs between PLN 140 and PLN 170 per 45-minute session. Travel, medication, medical appointments and his diet are additional expenses.
