As reported by wiescirolnicze.pl, a nationwide protest campaign will begin across Germany on January 8: “It will involve, among other things, road blockades from the very early hours.

The protests’ climax is scheduled to take place today. City of Zgorzelec:

From January 8, a nationwide protest campaign, involving, among others, German farmers, will be held across Germany. It will consist of road blockades from the early morning until the afternoon (5:00–17:00), causing serious traffic disruptions and potentially provoking dissatisfaction among motorists from our city.

However, Zgorzelec’s local authorities also have good news:

During a conversation with the District Police Commander in Zgorzelec, Mayor Rafał Gronicz was informed that, contrary to announcements that had appeared, car traffic on the A4 motorway and at the motorway border crossing will not be halted, meaning that travel on the motorway will be possible. It is important, however, that exits from and onto the motorway on the German side of the border will be blocked for the duration of the protest.

How should you travel?

Zgorzelec authorities:

People from Zgorzelec and the surrounding area who work for companies located in Germany should, until the protests end, use the road crossings in Zgorzelec and Radomierzyce when commuting to and from work.

Wiescirolnicze.pl on Polish participation in the campaign:

It is worth adding, however, that—according to German media—the protest on the Polish-German border will be partly joint. Polish farmers are expected to join German farmers to protest together at this time against grain imports from Ukraine.

The website adds:

Görlitz and Zgorzelec will become the center of the protests (in Görlitz County). German and Polish farmers will ensure this on Monday—from 4:50—with a demonstration at the A4 border crossing. According to the organizer “Ziemia łączy,” Polish and German farmers are jointly protesting, among other things, against grain imports from Ukraine, reports the saechsische.de.
