Prime Minister Donald Tusk appointed Maciej Awiżeń to the position of Voivode of Lower Silesia effective December 22, 2023. Jarosław Obremski stepped down from his previous position as Voivode of Lower Silesia and congratulated his successor.
Maciej Awiżeń, born in 1972, is a graduate of cultural studies at the University of Wrocław; he has worked as an editor and entrepreneur, served as a councillor, and has been the Kłodzko County Head since December 2, 2010, and in the 3rd term (2018–2023) since November 22, 2018.
Awiżeń is also a poet and prose writer. From 1993 to 2004, he worked as a senior instructor at the Centre for Cultural Education in Kłodzko. He co-founded the 662 Poetry Group, which published works in the “Czasempiśmie Poetyckim Bung” (“Bung Poetry Magazine”) (1991–1997). Together with Krzysztof Papis, he published a volume of poetry entitled Zbieg z okoliczności (1990).
