The ceramics studio at the International Ceramics Center will be run by Mateusz Grobelny. The artist graduated from the Faculty of Ceramics and Glass at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. He is also a clothing technician specializing as a designer-stylist and a construction technician. Since 2009, Grobelny has run the GAR Open Ceramics Studio project. The studio’s purpose is to present ceramic production and firing technologies through demonstrations of firings in wood-fired kilns and demonstrations of handmade ceramics and pottery-wheel techniques.

– Mateusz Grobelny has been coming to Bolesławiec for years with his own kilns – says Ewa Lijewska-Małachowska, director of BOK-MCC and the initiator of inviting the artist to set up a studio at the ceramics center. – He is an outstanding and versatile artist who has found his place perfectly in our new studio. I am certain that he is someone who will make full use of its potential. It is also important to me that Mateusz likes Bolesławiec, feels comfortable here and wants to create right here.

Mateusz Grobelny’s author studio is open in nature. It is intended for anyone who wants to learn about the world of ceramic creation. – I invite amateurs who want to have fun with clay, as well as people who already have ideas for their ceramic works – says Grobelny. – I want to work with people individually. Those who want to apply to university will learn the basics of ceramics and sculpture here. I know the format of university entrance examinations. I will certainly help them prepare.

At Mateusz Grobelny’s BOK-MCC ceramics studio, participants will be able to learn the technology of creating a ceramic work: from preparing the clay, through hand-building and throwing, to firing the work. – With me, students will fire their sculptures in wood-fired kilns, because that is my specialty – the artist encourages. – I hope there will be people who light the kiln with me and tend it. I would like to carry out several such firings.

Mateusz Grobelny will also create his own works in the studio. He plans another collection, “Body Structures” – sculptures of female figures fired in wood-fired kilns. He also plans to bring his own wheeled kiln to Bolesławiec, in which he has announced firings for students.

Registration for people over 16 will take place on Monday, October 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. directly at the studio. Piłsudskiego Square, International Ceramics Center.
