As the Lwówecki.info editorial team learned, between 13 July and 31 October 2023, the system “recorded 134,000 cases of drivers failing to comply with the speed limit in force on this section of road.”

The General Road Transport Inspectorate told the Lwówek-based outlet:

The highest speeding violation was recorded in August. The driver of a Mercedes-Benz exceeded the speed limit by 89 km/h. Where the limit was 110 km/h, the driver was travelling at 199 km/h. The perpetrator was fined PLN 2,500 and received 15 penalty points.

Let us recall. At the end of June, the Wrocław branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways reported that the installation of cameras on gantries over the A4 motorway was nearing completion, on the 8-kilometre section between the Kostomłoty and Kąty Wrocławskie interchanges.

As GDDKiA explained at the time:

The location was selected following a road safety analysis carried out jointly by GDDKiA and GITD. This section of the motorway has no emergency lane, and the speed limit is 110 km/h. Between 2018 and 2022, nearly thirty accidents occurred here, injuring approximately fifty people. Given the scale and consequences of road incidents occurring on this section, it is necessary to place it under continuous speed enforcement.

It added:

The use of average-speed cameras, operated by CANARD (the Centre for Automatic Traffic Enforcement, an organisational unit of GITD), leads to a reduction in incidents involving violations of the applicable speed limits. Thus, it significantly improves the level of safety for all road users.
