– Officers of the Customs and Tax Service from the Lower Silesian Customs and Tax Office in Wrocław conducted inspections near the A4 motorway and AOW. They selected a passenger car – reports Sebastian Polański from the Communications Department of the Wrocław Revenue Administration Chamber.

He adds:

During the inspection, the officers noticed the unusual construction used in the vehicle. The passenger car was registered as a two-seater and had a disproportionately small cargo area—for a two-seater car.

The officers decided to escort the vehicle to one of the customs branches in Wrocław. Sebastian Polański: – The passenger car was inspected using a mobile scanner. Scanning the vehicle confirmed the officers’ suspicions—the empty spaces were filled with cargo.

The result? They reached a hidden cargo compartment behind the driver’s and passenger’s seats and in the engine compartment. The spokesperson: – The officers detected more than 130,000 cigarettes (6,500 packs of cigarettes) without Polish excise stamps, with a black-market value of PLN 99,000. If the excise goods had reached recipients, the State Treasury would have lost nearly PLN 159,000 in unpaid VAT and excise duty.

The Lower Silesian KAS reminds:

Buying, storing or transporting tobacco products without Polish excise stamps is punishable by up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine and forfeiture of the illegal goods.
