Officers of the Customs and Tax Service from the Lower Silesian Customs and Tax Office in Wrocław, the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit and Zgorzelec police officers were checking the A4 motorway near Zgorzelec. At the first kilometre of the motorway in Jędrzychowice, they used a mobile scanning device to scan a lorry. The scanner image showed that the trailer floor had been modified.
During the inspection, Aria, a service dog of the Lower Silesian Customs and Tax Service, confirmed the location that had attracted the officers’ attention.

The lorry was subjected to a detailed search. After removing the pallets with the declared cargo, the officers searched the vehicle’s trailer. In a specially constructed compartment in the trailer floor, they found packages of marijuana.
The black-market value of the seized drugs was over PLN 8 million.
A 50-year-old Polish man had attempted to bring the drugs into Poland. During investigative activities, officers from the Nadbużański Border Guard Unit identified a person suspected of organising the marijuana smuggling operation. KAS: – A 34-year-old Polish citizen was detained in connection with the case. At his place of residence in Wrocław, officers secured evidence of the crime and cash amounting to over PLN 720,000.
The officers brought both detained men before the National Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin. There, the suspects were charged with the intra-Community acquisition within the EU and transport of significant quantities of narcotic drugs, for which they face between 3 and 20 years in prison.
By decision of the District Court in Lublin, they were remanded in custody for three months. The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests cannot be ruled out.
