The exhibition is the first attempt on this scale to tell the history of Koleje Dolnośląskie since the company was established on 28 December 2007.
– The exhibition is intended to acquaint the residents of Lower Silesia with our company’s 15-year track record. It presents a timeline of the most important events in the history of Koleje Dolnośląskie. These include key investments, such as the new service hall opened in August this year. Visiting the exhibition is also the only opportunity to see previously inaccessible memorabilia, uniforms and photographs that had until now been kept in private collections – says Damian Stawikowski, president of Koleje Dolnośląskie.
An important part of the exhibition consists of equipment essential to train operations but known only to railway workers. This includes, for example, a pantograph, which collects electricity from the overhead catenary, and a coupler connecting rail vehicles. After touring the entire exhibition, visitors will be able to settle into comfortable seats identical to those found in the most modern Koleje Dolnośląskie trains.
– We have prepared an additional attraction for the youngest railway enthusiasts: a model of Legnica railway station, commissioned by us and built entirely from LEGO bricks at a scale of 1:40 – adds Bartłomiej Rodak, press spokesperson for Koleje Dolnośląskie.
During the exhibition opening on 13 October, two collectible Koleje Dolnośląskie banknotes with a face value of 0 euros will be launched and available for purchase on site. They will feature images of Mieszko I and Jadwiga Śląska, as well as the company logo referring to its 15th anniversary. The banknotes continue the project “From the Past into the Future. A Gallery of Kings and Dukes on Koleje Dolnośląskie Trains”, whose aim is to provide passengers with historical education and promote local patriotism.
The exhibition dedicated to the 15th anniversary of Koleje Dolnośląskie will be on display at the Copper Museum in Legnica until 30 March 2024.
