The Equality March is an event aimed at increasing the visibility and acceptance of LGBT+ people and promoting equality and tolerance. Nothing demonstrates Bolesławiec’s European character more than openness and a celebration of equality for all citizens of the European Union. The slogan chanted during the March was: freedom, equality, acceptance!

The Bolesławiec Equality March is an event aimed at increasing visibility and acceptance for LGBT+ people. Supporting excluded groups is noble in itself. LGBT+ children, young people and adults often experience discrimination and are socially marginalized. The Equality March offers a platform for their voices and makes it possible to draw the community’s attention to the problems they face.

The Bolesławiec Equality March is also an initiative promoting social education. At the March, we talk about homophobia, transphobia and other forms of discrimination.

Teachers, parents with children and a great many young people took part in the Bolesławiec Equality March. It was an opportunity to build strong, mutually supportive communities, which is important for the mental well-being of LGBT+ people.

People taking part in the March showed support for the families and friends of people with minority sexual orientations, who also experience various forms of social discrimination and stigmatization. Changing people’s attitudes and drawing attention to the rights of LGBT+ people were also important to the marchers. And changing people’s attitudes is crucial to our country’s long-term progress.

The Bolesławiec Equality March also strengthened democracy in Poland, which had been so weakened under PiS rule. It was also an expression of civic engagement through which people could express their opinions and strive for change.

In the age of the Internet, even local marches can have a global impact. Marches in small towns are extremely important, because it is hardest to make oneself visible there. That is why our March can inspire similar actions in similar communities across Poland. The opponents of democracy, equality, tolerance and the European Union understood this perfectly: Narodowy Bolesławiec, Zagłębie Lubin supporters, and prayer groups with doctor Janusz Chudyba and former councilor Dariusz Filistyński, who prayed to support hooligans shouting, “This is Poland, not Brussels; perverts are not supported here.”

The Equality March is our children’s future, because we live in Europe, and Europe is within us!
