During an afternoon patrol, officers from the Zgorzelec SPEED group decided to stop a motorcyclist for a roadside check. They gave him visual and audible signals to stop the vehicle. The rider of the Yamaha motorcycle did in fact stop, but... only to let his passenger off. A moment later—as if nothing had happened—he continued riding. The officers gave chase.

– The motorcyclist, fleeing from the roadside check, violated traffic regulations and significantly exceeded the speed limit, including in a built-up area. The highest speed recorded for the motorcyclist was over 200 km/h – reports Junior Asp. Paweł Noga, press officer of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – The rider even tried to cross the border, but when he noticed a German police patrol, he turned around and began fleeing toward Zgorzelec.

Officers from the Patrol and Intervention Unit of the Zgorzelec police station joined the operation. The spokesperson said: – As the fugitive approached a roundabout, he noticed a police roadblock and tried to turn around, but lost control of the vehicle, hit a police car and fell. He still attempted to escape on foot, but was arrested shortly afterward.

It turned out that the motorcyclist, a 40-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County, did not have a licence to ride this type of vehicle. What is more, a bag containing methamphetamine was found on him. And, as a drug test showed, he had been riding the motorcycle under its influence.

That was not all. The motorcycle had been stolen in Germany, and its registration plates were assigned to another vehicle.

Junior Asp. P. Noga: – The 40-year-old was taken to the Zgorzelec police station, while the motorcycle was taken to the police impound lot.

He added: – For the offences committed—failing to stop for a roadside check, possession of psychotropic substances, driving under the influence of drugs, handling a stolen motorcycle, and using a registration plate assigned to another vehicle—as well as numerous misdemeanours, the fugitive may face up to five years in prison.
