A soldier of the 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade, Private Igor Darul, extinguished in the middle of the night a fire that had broken out on the balcony of a neighboring apartment. The incident occurred during the night of September 29–30. Private I. Darul recounts:
At 3 a.m., someone rang our doorbell. It turned out to be a neighbor who had come to warn us that a fire had broken out on the balcony of the apartment next door. The emergency services had already been notified.
He adds:
I went out onto the balcony to see what the situation looked like. At the same time, I started filling a pitcher with water. I leaned out and assessed that there were no electrical devices. I went back for the pitcher of water, started pouring water into a bowl, and began putting out the fire. First the pitcher, then the bowl, then another pitcher of water—and I managed to extinguish the fire. The emergency services arrived immediately after I had put out the flames.
The armored brigade summed it up: – The entire operation lasted about two hours. Thanks to the swift reaction of Private Igor Darul, the fire did not have time to spread.
